Allison The Artist

I’m a painter and teacher and sculptor and designer. I’m an artist.

WELCOME TO MY SITE

I’ve always wanted to make things that make me happy. Large brush-strokes swirling on a canvas or an amazing texture beckoning you to touch it, art is the experience of seeing, and the enjoyment that comes from the thoughts within a piece, and yet the absence of thought behind it all.

There are numerous ways I am an artist.

I paint LIVE for banquets and fundraisers. As people stroll along during a silent auction, I paint for a few hours while the guests muse what it will become.

I teach. This is perhaps the art form that demands the most honing and polishing. Teaching is fun and exhausting. Teaching to every child is rewarding and awful. Watching artwork unfold from young minds all-day-long is a magical experience.

I sculpt. Perhaps my favorite form of expression is sculpture. The 3rd element depth is so much fun to add to the mix. Kids know it in my classroom as they ask over and over again, “When are we using clay?” It captivates me to create something in our space that you can climb on or hold, or that is smooth or soft, and I can do this type of art for longer than any other without wanting to take a break.

I paint on commission. I take what I think the essence of that person is, either in subject matter or personality, and I paint what they want. These usually are artworks I could have never imagined without knowing the person the painting is for or about. I enjoy seeing their personality come out of my hands.

I do public art. Usually sponsored by the Nebraska Arts Council, I have done several large pieces with kids. These experiences are very rewarding; the students get to see their art take a permanent form for all to see and they are so proud. Having pride in their work is an invaluable life lesson.

I illustrate. I love to illustrate for magazines when a job calls. It is a lot of fun to see art reproduced for the masses. It’s rather addicting, really.
